The passenger endorsement applies to drivers who want to drive a bus in any Class A, B, or C CDL. Applicants must pass a special knowledge test, and must pass skills tests in a passenger vehicle. The Nevada CDL passenger test consists of 20 questions. To pass, you must correctly answer at least 16 questions (80%). The NV passenger test covers the following sections of the Nevada CDL Manual: Driving Safely, Transporting Passengers, Vehicle Inspection Test, Basic Control Skills Test and Road Test. Frequently Asked Questions
You are eligible for an instruction permit at 15½ years old. If you are under 18, you must hold the permit for at least 6 months before applying for a class C driver license. If you are over 18, you can either receive the permit or, if you directly schedule the skills test, you will receive only an interim document until you pass the test.
You can take the DMV written test online at KnowTo Drive, the official knowledge testing platform in Nevada. If you are under 18, an adult at least 21 years of age must be present to complete your identity verification. After you pass the exam, you are still required to schedule an appointment and visit a DMV office to receive the permit. Alternatively, you can schedule the knowledge test at any Nevada DMV office.
You must bring the following documents:
- Proof of identity (one document). If you've changed your name, provide documentation.
- Proof of Social Security number.
- Proof of Nevada residence (two documents).
- Completed Application for Driving Privileges (DMV 002).
For individuals under 18:
- Certification of Attendance signed by the School Principal or School Designee.
- Minor Affidavit signed by parent/guardian.

The DMV written test in Nevada is available in both English and Spanish. If you don't speak these languages well, you can use a DMV Approved Interpreter. The interpreter will also be required to complete an "Affidavit of Oath for Interpreters" form at the DMV office.
To prepare for the DMV written test, read the Nevada Driver's Handbook and take our free practice tests. Topics covered on the exam include road signs, parallel parking, turning, passing a vehicle, yielding the right of way, etc. Once your scores are good, you are ready for the real knowledge test.
With an instruction permit, you can drive only if accompanied by a driver who is at least 21 years old, has been licensed for at least 1 year, and is seated beside you. After receiving your driver's license, you cannot transport passengers under 18 for the first 6 months (except for family members). Until you turn 18, you are restricted from driving between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m., unless for approved school or work activities. Finally, it is prohibited for all drivers under 21 to operate a vehicle after consuming any amount of alcohol.
Nevada instruction permits remain valid for one year. In case of expiration, you can renew it in person at a DMV office and a parent or guardian is required to sign another Financial Responsibility Statement.
If you don't pass your online DMV written test in Nevada, you'll need to wait for one calendar day before trying again. An additional fee is required for each attempt.
