The air brakes endorsement applies to applicants who wish to drive a vehicle with air brakes in Class A, B, or C CDL. To drive a vehicle with air brakes, you must pass the air brake component of the Florida CDL knowledge test. The FL CDL air brakes test consists of 25 questions, and you'll need at least 20 correct answers to pass (80%). When should you downshift automatic transmissions?

When you start to get drowsy.
|
|
|
When going down steep grades.
|
|
|
Watch your tachometer, and downshift when your engine reaches the top of the range.

When you want to go faster.

After starting the engine, oil pressure should rise to a normal level:
|
within 2 minutes.
|
|
|
within 3 miles.
|
|
|
within 6 minutes.
|
|
|
within seconds.

If you get stuck on railroad tracks, you should:

stay in the vehicle and call for help.
|
|
|
get out of the vehicle and away from the tracks.
|
|
|
have a helper push your vehicle.

check the engine compartment quickly.

With the air pressure built up to governor cutoff, the maximum leakage rates per minute after the initial pressure drop are:

5 psi for single vehicles and 6 psi for a combination of 2 vehicles.
|

|
1 psi for single vehicles and 2 psi for a combination of 2 vehicles.
|
|
|
3 psi for single vehicles and 4 psi for a combination of 2 vehicles.
|
|
|
4 psi for single vehicles and 2 psi for a combination of 2 vehicles.

When you use your mirrors while driving on the road, you should:
|
avoid checking them regularly.
|
|
|
only use the driver's side mirror.
|
|
|
check them quickly.
|
|
|
stare for a long time at the mirror.
