The air brakes endorsement applies to applicants who wish to drive a vehicle with air brakes in Class A, B, or C CDL. To drive a vehicle with air brakes, you must pass the air brake component of the Kentucky CDL knowledge test. The KY CDL air brakes test consists of 25 questions, and you'll need at least 20 correct answers to pass (80%). The test covers the information found in the air brakes section of the Kentucky CDL Manual. Take this KY CDL practice test now to prepare for the actual air brakes test!
1. Empty trucks:
are higher than loaded trucks.
have less traction.
require greater stopping distances.
All of the above.
2. Spring brakes:
are usually held back by air pressure.
will apply the brakes when a leak in the air brake system causes all the air to be lost.
will come fully on when air pressure drops to a certain range, typically 20 to 30 psi.
All of the above.
3. Weight that is loaded so there is a high center of gravity:
makes a vehicle easier to handle.
reduces the chance that the load will shift to the side or fall off.
causes greater chance of rollover.
All of the above.
4. Slack adjusters:
are the linkage between the operating rod in the brake chamber and drum brakes or disk brakes in an air brake system.
are used to adjust the brakes on an air-brake system.
regulate the distance that the air brake has to travel to apply friction to the wheel.
All of the above.
5. To perform an applied leakage test, the vehicle’s air pressure should be built up to maximum pressure. Check the air gauge to see that the air pressure should drop no more than:
1 psi for single vehicles and 3 psi for a combination of 2 vehicles.
5 psi for single vehicles and 6 psi for a combination of 2 vehicles.
3 psi for single vehicles and 4 psi for a combination of 2 vehicles.
2 psi for single vehicles and 5 psi for a combination of 2 vehicles.
