NEW MEXICO CDL AIR BRAKES PRACTICE TEST

The air brakes endorsement applies to applicants who wish to drive a vehicle with air brakes in Class A, B, or C CDL. To drive a vehicle with air brakes, you must pass the air brake component of the New Mexico CDL knowledge test. The NM CDL air brakes test consists of 25 questions, and you'll need at least 20 correct answers to pass (80%). 1. The s-cam:
pulls the brake shoes away from the drum.
forces the brake shoes away from one another and presses them against the inside of the brake drum.
helps ensure that air flows to all trailers.
2. To test the service brake:
push the brake pedal firmly while going about 5 mph.
gently try to pull forward with the trailer parking brake on, then release the brake.
shift your transmission to a low gear, pump the brake pedal three times, then hold it down for five seconds.
3. If your tires are hot, you should NOT:
drive until you correct the cause of the overheating.
stop to let the tires cool down.
let air out of the tires so the pressure goes back to normal.
4. A dual air brake system:
has a single air brake system, which uses a single set of brake controls.
has two separate air brake systems, which use a single set of brake controls.
has two separate air brake systems, which use two separate sets of brake controls.
5. If you must stop on a one-way or divided highway, place your warning devices:
10 feet, 50 feet, and 150 feet toward the approaching traffic.
100 feet, 200 feet, and 300 feet toward the approaching traffic.
10 feet, 100 feet, and 200 feet toward the approaching traffic.
