21. To check the slack adjusters:
check the air hoses connected to the brake chambers to make sure they aren't cut or worn.
park downhill and see if the vehicle rolls.
Park on level ground and chock the wheels, release the parking brakes and pull hard on each slack adjuster. The slack adjuster shouldn't move more than one inch.
22. The air compressor governor:
stops the compressor from pumping air.
allows the compressor to start pumping air when the tank pressure rises to the "cut-out" pressure.
controls when the air storage tanks will pump air into the air compressor.
23. When backing, you should:
use the mirrors on both sides.
back quickly.
only use mirror on the driver's side.
24. Your truck has a dual air system. If either system is very low on pressure:
the tractor protection valve will not work properly.
either the front or the rear brake will not be fully operational.
the low pressure warning signal will stop working.
25. A low air pressure warning signal is required on:
all vehicles with air brakes.
