The air brakes endorsement applies to applicants who wish to drive a vehicle with air brakes in Class A, B, or C CDL. To drive a vehicle with air brakes, you must pass the air brake component of the Connecticut CDL knowledge test. The CT CDL air brakes test consists of 25 questions, and you'll need at least 20 correct answers to pass (80%). The test covers the information found in the air brakes section of the Connecticut CDL Manual. Take this CT CDL practice test now to prepare for the actual air brakes test!
1. When should you be particularly careful about high winds?
When emerging from a tunnel
When driving at night
When going downhill
When driving in winter
2. An anti-lock braking system (ABS):
helps you avoid skids caused by over braking.
helps you avoid wheel lock up.
should help you steer around an obstacle while braking.
All of the above.
3. With the air pressure built up to governor cutoff, the maximum leakage rates per minute after the initial pressure drop are:
1 psi for single vehicles and 2 psi for a combination of 2 vehicles.
3 psi for single vehicles and 4 psi for a combination of 2 vehicles.
4 psi for single vehicles and 2 psi for a combination of 2 vehicles.
5 psi for single vehicles and 6 psi for a combination of 2 vehicles.
4. ABS malfunction lamps are located:
on the driver'door.
under the hood.
on the instrument panel.
None of the above.
5. When checking air brakes on combination vehicles, which of the following is NOT part of checking that air flows to all trailers?
Pulling tractor forward until the fifth-wheel comes out from under the trailer.
Going to the rear of the rig.
Using the trailer handbrake to provide air to the service line.
Opening the emergency line shut-off valve at the rear of the last trailer.
6. In a dual air brake system, if one air system is very low on pressure:
either the front or rear brakes will not be operating fully.
the effect won't be noticeable for the first 50 miles.
you should pump the brakes to restore pressure.
you should drive and brake as you always have.
7. The alcohol evaporator:
helps to reduce the risk of ice in air brake valves and other parts in cold weather.
shows how much air pressure you are applying to the brakes.
ensures the coolant temperature gauge remains in the normal range.
eliminates the need for daily air tank drainage.
8. Empty trucks:
have less traction.
require greater stopping distances.
are higher than loaded trucks.
All of the above.
9. The application pressure gauge shows:
how much pressure is in the air tanks.
how much pressure the relay valves should send to the trailer brakes.
how much air pressure you are applying to the brakes.
All of the above.
10. In vehicles with air brakes, the brake pedal:
let the air out of the spring brakes.
pumps air into the air storage tanks.
tells you how much pressure is in the air tanks.
controls the air pressure applied to the brakes.
