The air brakes endorsement applies to applicants who wish to drive a vehicle with air brakes in Class A, B, or C CDL. To drive a vehicle with air brakes, you must pass the air brake component of the Florida CDL knowledge test. The FL CDL air brakes test consists of 25 questions, and you'll need at least 20 correct answers to pass (80%).   • Online test proctoring form (for those who completed the test online)
  • Parental consent form application (if you are under 18 and unmarried)

If you complete the test through a registered third-party administrator, you don’t need to bring any extra document because the test results will be automatically notified.
The DMV written test in Florida is offered in various languages, including Arabic, Chinese, English, Haitian Creole, Russian, and Spanish. Although language options are provided, it is advisable to have a basic understanding of English since road signs are always in English.

The DMV written test includes 50 multiple-choice questions. The questions cover various topics to ensure that applicants have a solid understanding of the rules of the road. Carefully study the manual to enhance your chances of passing the exam.

On the Florida DMV written test, you are allowed to miss up to 10 questions out of the total 50 in order to pass. This means you need a score of at least 80%. Take your time during the exam to make sure you understand the questions well.

For new drivers in Florida, the following restrictions apply:
  • With a learner's license, you must be accompanied by a licensed driver who is at least 21. For the first three months you are restricted to daylight hours, then driving is allowed until 10 pm.
  • At 16 with a driver license, you can drive alone except from 11 pm to 6 am, unless for work reasons or if accompanied by a licensed driver aged 21 or older.
  • At 17 with a driver license, you can drive alone except from 1 am to 5 am, unless for work reasons or if accompanied by a licensed driver aged 21 or older.
  • For those under 21, there is zero alcohol tolerance. If stopped with a Blood Alcohol Level (BAL) of .02 or higher, your license will be suspended for six months.
If you do not pass your DMV written test in Florida, you will need to pay the fee again for another attempt. Keep in mind that a service fee is applicable to all driver license transactions at a tax collector office. Focus on the sections of the manual you have overlooked to have a deep understanding of the driving laws.
