The test covers the information found in the air brakes section of the Tennessee CDL Manual. Take this TN CDL practice test now to prepare for the actual air brakes test!
1. If your brakes fail while you are driving on a downgrade, you should:
take the least hazardous escape route you can.
immediately start looking outside your vehicle for something to stop it.
use an escape ramp if it's available.
All of the above.
2. With a dual air brake system:
one system is the main braking system while the other is a back-up system.
each system shares the same lines and hoses.
each system has its own air tanks, hoses and lines.
each system shares air tanks.
3. When the air pressure is built up to governor cutoff, the air leakage rate for combination vehicles with the engine off and the foot brake fully applied should be less than_____ in one minute.
4 psi
5 psi
3 psi
2 psi
4. If the low pressure warning signal doesn't work:
this could cause sudden emergency braking in a single-circuit air system.
you could lose air pressure and you would know it.
in dual systems the stopping distance will be decreased.
None of the above.
5. ABS helps you:
increase your normal braking capability.
avoid wheel lock up and maintain control of your vehicle when you brake.
steer gently and smoothly while you are braking.
stop much faster.
6. Slack adjusters:
are used to adjust the brakes on an air-brake system.
are the linkage between the operating rod in the brake chamber and drum brakes or disk brakes in an air brake system.
regulate the distance that the air brake has to travel to apply friction to the wheel.
All of the above.
7. If you must make an emergency stop, you should:
apply the brakes as hard as you can to lock them.
use the hand brake before the brake pedal.
brake in a way that will keep your vehicle in a straight line.
None of the above.
8. Some air brake systems have an alcohol evaporator. Checking the alcohol container and filling it up as necessary:
helps keep the engine cool, as well as lubricating it.
reduces the risk of ice in air brake valves during cold weather.
helps you avoid wheel lock up.
reduces the risk of having an accident due to drowsy driving.
9. Pressing and releasing the brake pedal unnecessarily can:
let air out faster than the compressor can replace it.
causes friction, which slows the vehicle.
causes all the air to be lost.
apply more air pressure.
10. Weight that is loaded so there is a high center of gravity:
reduces the chance that the load will shift to the side or fall off.
causes greater chance of rollover.
makes a vehicle easier to handle.
All of the above.
