The tanker endorsement applies to drivers who wish to drive a tank in Class A, B, or C CDL. To add this endorsement to your CLP/CDL, you must pass a knowledge test on the problems posed by large volume liquid cargos. The California CDL tank vehicles test consists of 20 questions. To pass, you must correctly answer at least 16 questions (80%). The CA tanker test covers the following sections of the California CDL Manual: Driving Safely, Combination Vehicles, Tank Vehicles, Hazardous Materials. 1. When you pull off the road and stop, you should:
use the taillights.
turn on the 4-way emergency flashers.
flash your brake lights.
2. Skids caused by acceleration can usually be stopped by:
coming to a complete stop.
applying the brakes firmly.
taking the foot off the accelerator.
3. Retarders:
improve gas mileage.
reduce braking distance.
help slow a vehicle, reducing the need for using brakes.
4. Rollovers happen when drivers:
brake too hard.
turn too slowly.
turn too fast.
5. If a vehicle is equipped with ABS, when you start the engine:
the spring brakes will come on.
the ABS indicator light on the dash should come on and then turn off.
the wheels will lock up.
6. To avoid a crash:
stopping is not always the best thing to do.
swerving is always the worst thing to do.
stopping is always the safest thing to do.
7. A full tank of dense liquid (such as some acids) may:
exceed legal weight limits.
weigh less than a tank filled with other liquids.
be subject to travel restrictions.
8. Before driving a tanker, the driver should:
inspect the vehicle.
make sure that the tank is empty.
change tires.
9. If the "Hazard Class" or "Division" column of the Hazardous Material Table contains the word "Forbidden", you should:
transport the "Forbidden" material at night.
be aware that the load may require a police escort.
never transport the "Forbidden" material.
10. If you're feeling tired while driving you should:
drink coffee.
eat something.
stop driving and get some rest.
