The passenger endorsement applies to drivers who want to drive a bus in any Class A, B, or C CDL. Applicants must pass a special knowledge test, and must pass skills tests in a passenger vehicle. The Kansas CDL passenger test consists of 20 questions. To pass, you must correctly answer at least 16 questions (80%). The KS passenger test covers the following sections of the Kansas CDL Manual: Driving Safely, Transporting Passengers, Vehicle Inspection Test, Basic Control Skills Test and Road Test. 1. When backing you should:
not use a helper.
back and turn toward the right side.
avoid making pull-ups to reposition your vehicle.
use driver-side backing.
2. Even if you are not required to always stop at railroad crossings and you are sure no train is approaching, you must stop before reaching the crossing if:
there is no oncoming traffic.
the tracks are not clear.
you can drive completely through the crossing without stopping.
there is oncoming traffic.
3. One way to avoid problems with passenger comfort and safety rules is to:
discharge disruptive riders as soon as possible.
explain the rules at the start.
caution riders to watch their step when leaving the bus.
avoid mentioning rules about smoking and drinking.
4. Banked curves:
are reserved for pedestrians.
should always be avoided.
can be taken at any speed.
have a safe "design speed".
5. To prevent rolling back when you start, if you have a manual transmission you should:
use the lowest reverse gear.
partly engage the clutch before you take your right foot off the brake.
never the parking brake.
over-accelerate.
6. If a drawbridge does not have a signal light or traffic control attendant, you should:
drive through the drawbridge with caution.
stop and look to make sure the draw is completely closed before crossing.
get through the drawbridge as quickly as possible.
stop at least 5 feet before the draw of the bridge.
7. When confronted by an aggressive driver you should not:
put aside your pride.
try to get out of their way.
make eye contact.
ignore gestures.
8. When arriving at the destination or intermediate stops, the driver should:
make the necessary announcements as riders are getting off the bus.
announce the outside temperature.
announce the date.
remind riders to take their belongings with them if they get off the bus.
9. Before driving your bus, to be sure it's safe you should:
review the bus safety guidelines.
ask the shipper for the Safety Confirmation report.
ask the Safety Certificate to your supervisor.
review the inspection report made by the previous driver.
10. A disabled bus with passengers on board:
should always be towed or pushed to the nearest safe spot to discharge passengers.
must be pushed by another bus.
should be towed or pushed to its destination with the passengers on board.
should not be towed or pushed, unless getting off the bus would be unsafe.
