Safely pulling double and triple trailers requires knowledge and skill. If you want to pull double or triple trailers, you must add the Doubles/Triples (T) endorsement to your Class A CDL. The New Jersey doubles triples test consists of 20 questions. To pass, you must correctly answer at least 16 questions (80%). New Jersey residents who have never had a class D driver license must follow the age requirements of the Graduated Driver License (GDL) program. There are three options:
- If you are 16 and enrolled in an approved behind-the-wheel driver training course, you can apply for a special learner permit. If you are enrolled in a driver education class, you can schedule your DMV written test at the driving school. Alternatively, you can purchase an examination permit at a New Jersey driver testing center and then make an appointment for the knowledge test.
