To earn your motorcycle license in Iowa, you must pass a knowledge test and an on-cycle skill test. Knowledge test questions are based on the contest of the Iowa Motorcycle Manual, and require that you know road rules and safe riding practices. The knowledge exam consists of 25 questions, and you'll need 20 correct answers to pass (80%).
1. To increase your visibility to other drivers, you should:
Avoid wearing reflective clothing.
Reduce your following distance.
Wear reflective clothing.
Use your high beam.
2. Because operation of a motorcycle is more tiring than the operation of a car, you should:
avoid drinking water.
drink a lot of coffee.
take frequent breaks.
eat foods high in carbohydrate.
3. When deciding if it safe to pass, you should not:
All the other answers are correct.
not pass if signs or pavement markings prohibit passing.
pass a school bus with flashing red lights.
not follow another vehicle that is passing a car in front of you.
4. Handlebars should be adjusted so:
you can lock the rear brake more easily.
your hands are even with or below your elbows.
your hands are above your elbows.
you can keep your arms straight.
5. If your motorcycle starts to wobble, do NOT:
grip the handlebars firmly
roll off the throttle
leave the road as soon as you can.
