Safely pulling double and triple trailers requires knowledge and skill. If you want to pull double or triple trailers, you must add the Doubles/Triples (T) endorsement to your Class A CDL. The Montana doubles triples test consists of 20 questions. To pass, you must correctly answer at least 16 questions (80%). The MT CDL doubles triples test covers the following sections of the Montana CDL Manual: Driving Safely, Air Brakes (if you plan to operate vehicles equipped with air brakes), Combination Vehicles, Doubles and Triples. Take this MT CDL practice test now to prepare for the actual test! Important: Triple trailers are not legal in Montana.
1. When coupling, you should:
make sure the trailer kingpin is bent.
make sure the trailer wheels are not chocked.
make sure the sliding fifth-wheel is locked.
be aware that wrong coupling and uncoupling can be very dangerous.
2. Cargo should be properly covered:
to block your view or someone else’s.
to protect people from spilled cargo.
to protect the weather from the cargo.
All of the above.
3. If an item placed on a flatbed trailer is 7 feet long, it should have __ tie-downs.
4. Over-length loads:
require special transit permits.
may require special equipment such as "wide load" or flags.
require special driving care.
All of the above.
5. When parking a trailer without spring brakes, it is very important for safety that you use wheel chocks. Why?
The air could leak out of the trailer air tank, releasing its emergency brakes.
if you don't use wheel chocks, supply air will be sent to the service line instead of going to charge the trailer air tanks.
You may not notice a major leak in the service line until you try to put the brakes on.
None of the above.
6. Which of the following is a common cause of truck fires?
loose fuel connections.
Short circuits due to loose connections.
Under-inflated tires and duals that touch.

assume the car left the roadway and change lanes as normal.
wait until you are sure the car isn't in your blind spot.
ease into the other lane slowly so the other car can get out of the way.
None of the above.

help drivers avoid skids caused by over braking.
require drivers to apply the brakes as hard as they can without locking the wheels.
help drivers avoid wheel lock up.
give drivers more control over the vehicle during braking.
