The passenger endorsement applies to drivers who want to drive a bus in any Class A, B, or C CDL. Applicants must pass a special knowledge test, and must pass skills tests in a passenger vehicle. The Rhode Island CDL passenger test consists of 20 questions. To pass, you must correctly answer at least 16 questions (80%). The RI passenger test covers the following sections of the Rhode Island CDL Manual: Driving Safely, Transporting Passengers, Vehicle Inspection Test, Basic Control Skills Test and Road Test. 1. Before driving your bus, to be sure it's safe you should:
ask the shipper for the Safety Confirmation report.
review the bus safety guidelines.
review the inspection report made by the previous driver.
2. If another vehicle is following closely, you should NOT:
increase your following distance.
avoid quick changes.
speed up.
3. Roof hatches:
must always be closed when driving.
may be locked in a partly open position for fresh air.
must be left open as a regular practice.
4. Buses must never carry:
oxygen medically prescribed for, in the possession of a passenger, and in a container designed for personal use.
radioactive materials in the space occupied by people.
emergency hospital supplies.
5. To avoid a hazard:
stopping is always the best thing to do.
steering away from what is ahead may be the best thing to do.
driving on the shoulder of the road is always the best thing to do.
6. If you recognize a distracted driver on the road, you should:
try to pass them.
follow them closely.
give them plenty of room.
7. Before driving your bus, make sure ________ do not have recapped or regrooved tires.

8. If stopped on a hill, how can you start moving without rolling back?
Partly engage the clutch before you take your right foot off the brake, put on the parking brake if necessary.
Press on the gas pedal, even if you have to roll back a little.
Release the parking brake before you have applied enough engine power to keep from rolling back.
9. When driving in heavy traffic, the safest speed is:
slower than the speed of other traffic.
the posted speed limit.
the speed of traffic.
10. If there is a fire and you are not sure what to use to put it out, you should:
use water.
wait for firefighters.
use a fire extinguisher.
