Safe riding requires knowledge and skill. To earn your motorcycle license in District of Columbia, you must pass both a knowledge test and an on-cycle skill test. The knowledge test includes questions on driving laws, rules of the road and safe riding practices, as well as information specific to two-wheeled vehicles. Knowledge test questions are based on information and ideas from the District of Columbia Motorcycle Operator Manual. The test consists of 25 questions, and a passing score consists of at least 20 correct answers (80%).
1. If your motorcycle starts to wobble, do NOT:
apply the brakes.
move your weight as far forward and down as possible.
roll off the throttle.
grip the handlebars firmly.
2. You should check your motorcycle tires:
every 3 months.
every month.
before every ride.
once a week.
3. When riding a motorcycle, you use your arms primarily:
to make hand signals.
to hold yourself up.
to apply the front brake.
to steer the motorcycle.
4. When they see a flashing yellow traffic signal, drivers should:
slow down and proceed with caution.
stop and proceed when the way is clear.
stop and proceed when a green light appears.
turn left.
5. You should roll on the throttle:
when you are preparing to stop.
when you are passing a row of parked cars.
to help stabilize your bike in a turn.
when you are descending a hill.
