Safe riding requires knowledge and skill. To earn your motorcycle license in Kansas, you must pass a knowledge test and an on-cycle skill test. The knowledge test includes questions on rules of the road, driving laws and safe riding practices, as well as information specific to two-wheeled vehicles. Knowledge test questions are based on information and ideas from the Kansas Motorcycle Operator Manual. The test consists of 25 questions, and you'll need at least 20 correct answers to pass.
1. When riding a motorcycle, keep your feet:
firmly on the footrests.
so that they skim along the surface of the roadside.
on the ground.
2. To help with your balance as you turn the motorcycle:
drag the rear brake.
shift down through the gears with the clutch.
keep your knees against the gas tank.
3. You are considered legally intoxicated if:
you had one drink and are over the age of 21.
your blood alcohol concentration (BAC) is 0.08% or more.
you have had at least one drink.
4. A group of motorcycle riders should ride in a staggered formation:
on narrow roads.
when merging onto a freeway.
on long stretches of road.
5. When riding at night, you should:
stay close behind the vehicle in front of you.
reduce your speed.
not use your headlight.
6. Handlebars should be adjusted so:
you can keep your arms straight.
your hands are above your elbows.
your hands are even with or below your elbows.
7. To carry a passenger, your motorcycle must have:
motorcycle boots.
a windshield.
passenger footrests.
8. To warn other drivers that you are slowing down where they may not expect it, you should:
pull in the clutch.
flash your brake light.
rise slightly off the seat.
9. When you ride alongside parked cars, why should you maintain a left lane position?
Motorcyclists should always ride in the left lane position.
The center lane position is too slippery.
You may avoid a door opening into your path.
10. In normal turns:
