Rhode Island requires a special license to operate a motorcycle. To earn your motorcycle license, you must complete a motorcycle safety course provided by the Community College of Rhode Island.
1. For railroad tracks that run parallel to your course, move far enough away from the tracks to cross at an angle of at least:
45°
180°
30°
90°
2. If the front tire goes flat while riding:
hold the handlegrips firmly, ease off the throttle, and keep a straight course.
make sure the tire pressure, shock spring preload and dampers are at the recommended settings for the weight.
avoid using the rear brake.
twist the throttle back and forth several times.
3. When you are being passed from behind, you should:
avoid moving into the portion of the lane farthest from the passing vehicle.
swerve as soon as you can.
ride on the shoulder of the road.
avoid riding in the center of the lane.
4. To reduce your reaction time, you should:
cover the clutch and the brakes.
flash your brake light.
ride in the left lane position.
wear reflective clothing.
5. To avoid hazardous situations and reduce their risk, experienced riders:
pull in the clutch when turning.
scan the road ahead.
swerve often.
avoid carrying passengers.
