Safely pulling double and triple trailers requires knowledge and skill. If you want to pull double or triple trailers, you must add the Doubles/Triples (T) endorsement to your Class A CDL. The South Carolina doubles triples test consists of 20 questions. To pass, you must correctly answer at least 16 questions (80%). The SC CDL doubles triples test covers the following sections of the South Carolina CDL Manual: Driving Safely, Air Brakes (if you plan to operate vehicles equipped with air brakes), Combination Vehicles, Doubles and Triples. 1. Doubles/triples are:

2. In vehicles with air brakes, the two markings on a front brake limiting valve are:

4. In a dual air brake system, if one air system is very low on pressure:
either the front or rear brakes will not be operating fully.

5. If driving a heavy vehicle, you should:
stay in the left lane.
avoid braking.
try to pass other vehicles going uphill.

shows how much air pressure is being applied to the brakes.
protects the tank and the rest of the system from too much pressure.
tells you how much pressure is in the air tanks.
7. Do NOT use the parking brakes:
to test that they work.
if the brakes are very hot.
when you leave your vehicle.
when you park for less than two hours.
8. If the drive wheels begin to spin, you should:
apply your brakes all the way.
wait 4-5 seconds before applying the accelerator.
accelerate smoothly and change gears as necessary.
take your foot off the accelerator.
9. Your vehicle has air brakes. To stop, you should:
pump the brake pedal 3 times.
pull the parking brake control knob out.
release the accelerator, push in the clutch, and shift to Neutral at the same time.
push the brake pedal down.
10. When you see you will need to slow down, you can warn drivers behind you by:
turning on the right turn signal.
slamming on the brakes.
making gestures.
tapping the brakes a few times.
