Anyone who operates a motor vehicle, motorcycle, or motorized bicycle on public road and highways in Arkansas is required to have a license or certificate. Every applicant is required to pass a vision test before issuance of a driver's license or learner’s permit. The written test covers the information found in the AR DMV Driver License Manual, including rules of the road, traffic laws, road signs and safe driving practices. The Arkansas DMV written test consists of 30 questions and you'll need 24 correct answers to pass (80%).
1. The Move Over Law requires drivers to:
Come to a complete stop as they approach an emergency vehicle with its emergency lights activated.
Increase their speed and pass emergency vehicles on the left, if they have their emergency lights activated.
Exercise care to avoid colliding with an emergency vehicle that is parked or stopped with its emergency lights activated.
2. At an uncontrolled intersection, drivers must:
Speed up and clear the intersection as soon as possible.
Take the right of way.
Slow down, yield to any vehicle already in the intersection and to the vehicles coming from the right.
3. Pentagonal signs are used to indicate:
Restricted intersections.
No passing zones.
School crossings.
4. Drivers should check their rearview mirrors:
To see if a truck is in their blind spot.
Only when slowing down.
Often to see how traffic is moving behind them.
5. A red arrow pointing to the right on a traffic light means you may:
Turn in that direction after you come to a complete stop.
Turn in that direction after slowing and checking traffic.
Not turn in that direction until the light turns green.
6. Drivers should maintain a two-second safe following distance when driving at:
Any speed.
Speeds up to 55 MPH.
Speeds up to 30 MPH.
7. When passing another vehicle, it is safe to return to your lane if you:
See both headlights in your rearview mirror.
Have passed the the other vehicle’s front bumper.
Cannot see the vehicle directly to your right.
8. When you back up:
You should rely solely on your rearview mirror for visibility.
Always look through the rear window.
Do it as fast as possible.
9. This road sign means:
no right turn sign
Sharp curve ahead.
No right turn.
Right turn permitted.
10. A “No Stopping” sign means:
You may only stop there to load or unload passengers quickly.
You cannot stop there for any reason, unless directed to do so by a traffic signal, sign or police officer.
You cannot stop there for longer than five minutes.
