To earn your motorcycle license in New Mexico, you must pass a knowledge test and an on-cycle skills test. Knowledge test questions are based on information from the New Mexico Motorcycle Operator Manual. They require that you know and understand road rules and safe riding practices. The New Mexico motorcycle test consists of 25 questions. To pass you must correctly answer at least 20 questions (80%).
1. You ride safely on slippery surfaces by:
avoiding sudden moves.
leaning back.
holding in the clutch.
maintaining or increasing your speed.
2. Which of the following is true about carrying cargo on your motorcycle?
Attach the cargo to your gas tank.
Use ropes to secure the load.
Fill saddlebags evenly to prevent drifting.
Never carry cargo on a motorcycle.
3. When you are riding at night, it is best to:
not use your headlight.
stay close behind the car in front of you.
ride slower than you do during the day.
wear a tinted face shield.
4. If the front tire goes flat while riding:
gradually apply the rear brake.
apply the front brake first.
apply both brakes at the same time.
apply the front brake firmly.
5. If your motorcycle starts to wobble, do NOT:
grip the handlebars firmly.
roll off the throttle.
accelerate out of the wobble.
leave the road as soon as you can.
