To obtain a CDL, you will be required to pass a vehicle inspection test. The vehicle inspection test, formerly known as pre-trip, is a skills test to see if you identify which features and equipment on the test vehicle should be inspected before driving. During the test, you will be asked to do an inspection of your vehicle. You will be expected to show your knowledge of the inspection process and you will be tested to see if you know whether your vehicle is safe to drive. During the CDL inspection test, DMV does not allow the use of testing aids, other than the vehicle inspection guide in the Oklahoma CDL Manual. To prepare for the test, study the following sections of the CDL manual: Driving Safely and the Vehicle Inspection Test. If you do not pass the CDL inspection test, the other skills tests will be postponed.

To prepare for the DMV written test, read the Oklahoma Driver's Handbook. Pay attention to road signs, parallel parking, turning, passing a vehicle, yielding the right of way, etc. Verify your knowledge with our practice tests or sign up for Premium, which offers extra resources to get ready for your exam.
The DMV written test has 20 questions. The questions cover different topics about driving, such as road signs, safe driving practices, and traffic laws. Carefully study the manual to enhance your chances of passing the exam.
For new drivers in Oklahoma, here are the driving restrictions based on the GDL program:
- Student Driver (No License) ? you can drive only when accompanied by a Certified Driver Education Instructor or a Public School Instructor.
- Learner Permit ? you may drive only from 5:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., and you must be accompanied by a licensed driver at least 21 years old.
- Intermediate License ? you may drive alone from 5:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. These hour restrictions do not apply for work, religious, or school activities, or if you are under the supervision of a licensed driver at least 21 years old seated near you. Additionally, you can transport only one passenger (except for family members) unless a licensed driver at least 21 is seated in the front seat.
If you don't pass your DMV written test, you need to wait at least one day before retaking it. You must pay an added fee. Review the manual once again and concentrate on areas where you may need additional preparation to improve your knowledge for the next attempt.
