Explanation
Carpool vehicles are those carrying two or more occupants. Along with buses, vanpools, and other high-occupancy vehicles, they are allowed to use High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lanes.
These lanes are marked with a white diamond symbol in the center of the lane and are designed to reduce traffic and promote ridesharing. Road signs posted near HOV lanes indicate the minimum number of passengers required and the hours during which the HOV restrictions apply.
