You must obtain a learner's permit before you operate a motor vehicle on public roadways in Pennsylvania. You will need to take and pass the vision, knowledge and road tests to get your driver’s license. The questions in this practice test mirror the 18 questions on the official Pennsylvania DMV written exam, drawn from the 2026 Pennsylvania Driver's Manual, and cover road rules, traffic laws, road signs and markings, and safe driving practices. You'll need at least 15 correct answers (83%) to pass. After passing the PA DMV knowledge test, the examiner will give you a learner's permit, which is valid for 1 year. Updated for 2026 DMV rules.
