Explanation

A U-turn is a maneuver used to reverse direction and proceed in the opposite way. In New York State, U-turns are legal only when it is safe and not otherwise prohibited. You may make a U-turn in a parking lot, driveway, or open space if it can be done safely. However, you must never make a U-turn:
- Near the top of a hill, on a curve, or anywhere your vehicle cannot be seen from at least 500 feet away.
- In a school zone
- On a limited access expressway.
- In business districts of NYC.
- At any intersection where “No U-Turn” signs are posted.
Always make U-turns from the leftmost part of your lane, and only when you have clear visibility and can yield to other traffic.
