Anyone who operates a motor vehicle or motorcycle on public roadways in the District of Columbia is required to have a driver’s license or learner’s permit. To obtain a DC driver license, you must successfully complete a knowledge test, skills road test and vision screening. The written test is based on the information contained in the District of Columbia DMV Driving Manual, and is designed to check your knowledge of rules of the road, traffic laws, road signs, and safe driving practices. The official DC DMV test consists of 25 questions. A passing score consists of at least 18 correct answers (70%).
1. Pedestrians crossing at corners have the right-of-way:
Always.
Never.
Only when they are blind or have other disabilities.
Only on marked crosswalks.
2. This road sign means:
low clearance sign 2
Low clearance.
No right turn.
Do not block intersection.
Yield the right-of-way to oncoming vehicles.
3. If an aggressive driver is behind you:
Sound your horn and move to the left lane.
Slow down and confront the aggressive driver.
Try to get out of the aggressive driver’s way.
Increase your speed and flash your brake lights.
4. If you get on a wrong expressway exit, you must:
Make a U-turn and return to the expressway.
Proceed and exit the expressway, then look for signs that tell you how to return to the expressway.
Drive in reverse to return to the expressway.
Use the the exit ramp to accelerate to expressway speed and blend with traffic.
5. When you change lanes:
Look over your shoulder in the direction you plan to move.
Look in the left side mirror.
Always accelerate to quickly merge into the next lane.
Look into the rearview mirror.
